Outpatient physical rehabilitation

An outpatient rehabilitation program allows patients to stay at home during their recovery and receive therapy on their schedule. It is usually less intensive than inpatient rehabilitation.

  • Auto accident injuries
  • Congenital deformities
  • Dupuytren's disease
  • Fractures of the wrist, hand, elbow and shoulder
  • Joint pain
  • Neck and back pain
  • Neurological conditions, such as stroke and Parkinson's disease
  • Repetitive stress injuries
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Vestibular and balance disorders

Our rehabilitation services

Our therapists will use a variety of treatment techniques to increase your range of motion, restore mobility and alleviate pain. They also provide instruction for home exercises, and compliance is crucial for a healthy and full recovery.

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapy focuses on helping you regain independence and restore the ability to perform activities of daily living. This includes dressing, feeding and personal hygiene skills. Occupational therapists improve, develop and/or restore upper body strength, range of motion and coordination. They also work to improve visual and perceptual skills as well as cognitive processing.

Hand and upper extremity therapy

We have occupational therapists who specialize in rehabilitating the hands and upper extremities. They offer a full spectrum of care, including preventive care, conservative treatment and postoperative rehabilitation.

Custom splinting

Your physician may order custom splinting to support and protect your injury or condition. The hand therapist will create the custom splint and instruct you in its proper use and care. This includes how to put it on, how long to wear it and some common precautions to be aware of when using a splint.

Physical therapy

Our physical therapists focus on helping you regain mobility and independence following an injury, illness or surgery. Some of the physical therapies and rehabilitative techniques we use include:

  • Anti-inflammatory, pain-reducing modalities
  • Coordination and balance training
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Face and body mechanics
  • Manual therapy techniques
  • Pain management therapy
  • Therapeutic activities and exercises
Aquatic therapy

Aquatic therapy focuses on increasing strength, flexibility and endurance, while causing low stress on the joints. With the resistance from the water and warm temperature of the pool, aquatic therapy helps strengthen without the need for weights. The buoyancy of the water takes the weight and stress off achy joints, making this type of therapy ideal if you are weak, have arthritis or have acute joint and spine injuries.

Speech therapy

Speech therapy focuses on helping you regain speech and language skills by engaging in exercises that strengthen language comprehension, speech and communication. It will also help oral motor control and coordination. Additionally, our speech therapists evaluate and treat feeding and swallowing disorders, helping to recover the ability to safely and efficiently swallow.

Our specialized rehabilitation programs

We also provide access to specialized rehabilitation programs, ensuring you receive the type of care that is right for you.

Cardiopulmonary therapy and rehabilitation

Our hospital offers Citrus County's only cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program. Here, our trained specialists provide the cardiac and/or respiratory rehabilitative therapies you need to maximize your abilities following a cardiopulmonary procedure or event. Specifically, we use advanced technologies and the latest cardiopulmonary rehabilitative therapies so you need fewer and shorter future inpatient visits.

Neurological and stroke rehabilitation

Outpatient neurological rehabilitation focuses on optimizing your recovery from a neurological event or surgery or managing a chronic condition. Through neurological rehabilitation, we can help regain balance and function impaired by a neurological condition.

Orthopedic rehabilitation

We provide specialized outpatient rehabilitative care for orthopedic conditions. Whether recovering from a total joint replacement or another orthopedic condition, we have the expertise to help you return to your highest level of functioning possible.

Sports medicine

Many of our therapists hold additional credentials for treating athletic injuries, such as athletic training (ATC) and strength and conditioning (CSCS) certifications. These credentials make them uniquely qualified to treat sports-related injuries and conditions. They also attend special conferences annually to remain at the cutting edge of care practices in this area.
