Minimally invasive robotic surgery in Citrus County, Florida
Citrus Memorial Hospital is proud to offer one of the most effective, least invasive surgical treatments available—robotic surgery. This is an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy. It allows our surgeons increased control and precision, providing greater range of motion to access hard-to-reach areas.

Our surgeons remain 100 percent in control while maneuvering the robotic technology to perform extremely complex operations through small incisions. The benefits for patients include less painful, shorter recovery times, so you can quickly resume your healthiest life.
What is robotic surgery?
Robotic surgery is not surgery performed by a robot. Instead, it gets its name from the state-of-the-art robotic technology controlled by surgeons performing these minimally invasive procedures.
Our surgeons make tiny incisions and insert thin, robotic surgical "arms." A small video camera attached to the "arms" provides high-definition, 3D images of the surgical site. The robotic instruments also have "joints," which provide a larger range of motion than human wrists.
The surgeon views the enhanced images in the viewfinder of the console. Their motions are seamlessly translated—without the possibility of hand tremors—into smaller, more precise movements of the robotic instruments.
What are the benefits of robotic surgery?
Robot-assisted surgery provides several advantages to conventional laparoscopy.
During laparoscopy, a surgeon operates while standing and using hand-held, long-shafted instruments which cannot bend or rotate. Also, the surgeon must constantly look up and away from the instruments to a nearby video monitor.
However, with robotic surgery's enhanced 3D visualization, a surgeon views the surgical site of the anatomy throughout the procedure.
Additionally, this robotic technology provides improved dexterity, surgical precision, access and range of motion.
For patients, robotic surgery offers a range of benefits, which allow a quicker and easier return to health. These benefits include:
- Faster recovery times
- Minimal scarring
- Less pain
- Less time in surgery
- Less trauma to area surrounding surgical site
- Shorter hospital stays
- Reduced risk for complications
